Having spent my entire life immersed in camping culture, I've embarked on extensive travels worldwide, experiencing a range of transportation modes and comfort levels, from family camping outings to backpacking adventures in South America. During my 16-year tenure as an Officer in the Royal Air Force Regiment, adventure became a routine aspect of my daily life. Whether it entailed living out of a Land Rover during deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan or leading snowboard expeditions in the Alps, meticulous planning and organization were essential to ensure we had the necessary equipment at our disposal. This included finding solutions for crucial storage needs and enhancing comfort during off-grid experiences.
Upon retiring from military service, I pursued retraining, specializing in electrics and carpentry, and ventured into property development in both the UK and Canada. Renovating numerous properties from the ground up became a rewarding endeavor. However, my wife and I desired more time to travel with our young children, igniting our journey into full-time van life with a 7-year-old and a 3-year-old in tow. Managing a small living space full-time with young children necessitated a high degree of organization.
This experience deepened my appreciation for tiny home living, inspiring me to explore inventive ways to create small, multifunctional homes on wheels. After traversing 20,000 miles across Canada and America over 12 months, we returned to the UK, and I felt compelled to transition into crafting beautiful campervans. Drawing from the lessons learned on the road and leveraging my property development skills, I established Homesmith Campers—a venture dedicated to crafting bespoke, handcrafted campervans that stand out from the rest. Since then, I have never looked back.
