Tom James is well-acquainted with the van life scene. Initially opting for a simpler setup of tossing a mattress into his work van for weekend getaways, he soon realized that adding comfort and luxury enhanced the joy of stargazing and embracing the freedom of van travel.
Describing himself as an outdoors enthusiast, Tom thrives in the open air, particularly when engaged in activities like mountain biking, motorcycling, snowboarding, or sailing—all while relishing the van life experience.
A strong advocate for prioritizing mental well-being alongside physical health, Tom founded Reset and Chill Campers. He believes that camping, traversing scenic landscapes, and immersing oneself in nature provide an excellent opportunity to reset and unwind.
Having led a lifestyle many only dream of, Tom has never shied away from hard work and long hours. However, he has always chosen to do so amidst stunning surroundings, pursuing his passion for building, renovating, and designing. Spending the majority of the past decade in Chamonix Mont-Blanc in the French Alps, where he focused on constructing and maintaining high-end chalets and apartments, honed his skills and cultivated a keen eye for detail and interior design. It was during this time that his affinity for van life blossomed. Residing in the heart of Europe afforded easy access to weekends spent along the north Italian coast, the serene Lac d’Annecy in France, and the picturesque island of Corsica—all enjoyed from the comfort of his then-work van, temporarily outfitted with a mattress and camping gear.
The simplicity of life, the connection with nature, and evenings spent under the stars with a barbecue brought immense joy and became Tom's passion. This passion evolved over the years, reaching a peak in 2019 when he embarked on a month-long journey with his partner across France, Spain, and Portugal in an SWB VW T6 Transporter. This adventure sparked the dream of owning a larger van equipped with standing room, a shower, space for a motorbike, and increased comfort. Thus, Reset and Chill Campers was born.
